7 Quotes from Iconic Women Everyone Should Know

I. Love. Quotes. 

I know a lot of people that say music got them through tough times in my life.  Don't get me wrong, I love a good lyric or rhythmic beat, who doesn't?  But honestly, doesn't it feel great when you are having a really poopy day and you log in to your favorite social media site to see that someone has posted a quote that just so happens to be something you needed to hear?  I love it when that happens!

I love quotes from various people/characters about all sorts of things from movies and yes, even song lyrics.  From time to time I will be posting some of my faves.  The following 7 quotes are by women that I believe truly have made an impact on this world in a big way.  You may or may not agree and you may or may not hold these women in the same regard that I do.  All of that is ok.  "It's what we do with the information that we are given that really matters, not who it was given to us by." ~ Cat Clayton 😉

Marilyn Monroe was born June 1, 1926 (exactly 50 years before me!) and passed away on August 5, 1962, at just 36 years old.  In her 36 years, she became a Hollywood icon and was arguably one of the most celebrated actresses in history.  While her personal story is somewhat scandalous and in the end, very sad, many people celebrate her exuberant personality and the positive marks she left behind.  While there are quite a few quotes that were reportedly by Marilyn Monroe, this is one of my favorites because "YOU" should always be the top priority.  I think it's the only way we can keep the rest of the world spinning. *Note: The link attached to her name under the quote is to her IMDB page.

Katie Couric was born January 7th, 1957 and has an extremely successful journalist career.  She has worked on all three major television networks (ABC, NBC & CBS) and released her book, The Best Advice I Ever Got: Lessons from Extraordinary Lives, which was a New York Times best-seller.  The journalism world is not friendly and there are ALWAYS critics!  Even as a blogger, we find that no article, post, or video pleases everyone.  That is why there is a "Like" and "Dislike" button!  If you are trying to save the world and make everyone happy, the only real person you are hurting is yourself.  Find your niche, build your brand and just be you.  The people that really matter in your journey may or may not agree, but either way, you will never question yourself if you stay true to you. *Note: The link attached to her name under the quote is to her twitter account.

Arianna Huffington was born July 15, 1950, and has been described by Biography.com as "a prolific author and international media mogul who started the award-winning news platform The Huffington Post."  She is also the author of several books on various topics like Sleep, Success, Greed, and the Presidential Election.  While I am not a fan of politics, I enjoy Arianna's wit, charm, and honesty.  There's something about a "no holds barred" woman that oozes motivation.  One day I'll check off the "I got published on the Huffington Post" box and it will be due in part, to trying to be a better "me" and not better than someone else. *Note: The link attached to her name under the quote is to her twitter account.

Angelina Jolie was born on June 4, 1975 (3 days shy of exactly 1 year before me! - why am I not as successful and popular as her?  She only had a year head start.  Her parents were in the business though, so she also had that stepping stone.  Plus, she was born in the land of movies basically.  Ok...I'll hop off this "what about me" box now. 😎)  What a crazy successful career she has led - Actress, Producer, Director, Activist, & Mom!!  While her name has been under much scrutiny, I personally admire her and specifically this quote.  I was raised in Fort Worth, Texas and during my childhood, driving in any direction, more than 30 minutes was basically the same as traversing the world to visit England.  My parents were a little afraid of the big unknown and didn't want their daughter (and son - my little brother) to get lost in it.  What they didn't know is that I was born to see the world.  I was in my 20's before I ever flew out of the state and have still not been out of the country...yet.  And that is a BIG yet!!  My parents have still, to this day, NEVER been on a plane.  I'm glad I found my way out of the box and can't wait to see the rest of the world! *Note: Angelina Jolie does not engage in social media, so the link above is to her IMDB page.

Julie Andrews was born October 1, 1935, and is an insanely talented celebrity.  She has won an Academy Award, 5 Golden Globes, 3 Grammy's, 2 Emmy's, the Screen Actors Guild Lifetime Achievement Award and the Disney Legends Award - aside from many others.  For someone so incredibly successful to honestly share a quote that is really hard for some people to really grasp and accept is motivating to me.  I want so badly to be successful in my career, to leave a legacy of some sort that my children can be proud of, it's nice to be reminded that not every article, post or video is going to hit the mark I am planning for it too.  And that I can just try again until I hit the mark I'm looking for. *Note: The link attached to her name under the quote is to her IMDB page.  While she does have a twitter account, it doesn't seem to be used often.

J.K. Rowling was born July 31, 1965, and published the first of her Harry Potter series in the US at just 33 years old.  Her online bio talks about being a child that loved to read and wrote her first book at 6 years old and her first novel at 11.  It seems she was destined to write.  I aspire to be a novelist someday and reading her story gives me hope.  The quote above is funny to me because it begins by saying, "We do not need magic to change the world...", but that is exactly what I think stories are - magic.  I'm sure that she was referring to the literal form of magic with wands and such, but when you can open a book and be transported to any other time and place, that is magic to me. *Note: The link attached to her name under the quote is to her Twitter account.

"People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel."

Maya Angelou was born April 4, 1928, and passed away May 28, 2014, at 86 years old.  She was a Poet, Singer and Civil Rights Activist.  You can search the interwebs all day long and come up with a billion quotes - she was lavish with knowledge, wit, honesty, and love.  When she passed, condolences were given by many celebrities and influential people including President Bill Clinton and President Barach Obama (whose sister was reportedly named after Maya Angelou).  Harold Augenbraum - American writer, editor, and translator as well as the former Executive Director of the National Book Foundation - is quoted as saying, "Her legacy is one that all writers and readers across the world can admire and aspire to."  The week after her death, her book I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings rose to #1 on Amazon's best seller list.  The year after her death the United States Postal Service issued a stamp celebrating her life with this quote by Joan Walsh Anglund - "A bird doesn't sing because it has an answer, it sings because it has a song."  The quote above by Maya Angelou is my favorite quote of all time.  I remind my children often in my own words: "A person won't remember what you said or what you did, but they will always remember how you made them feel.  Remember that."  They do and I have a sneaky feeling that it will be passed on to future generations.  *Note: Link attached to name under quote is to her website.

My wisdom teeth came in a long time ago, but really never caused any problems.  Every now and then I had occasional...
